India
Monday, June 5 was the first day of the school year for Deepam Primary School, the outreach of our partners, David and Taru Kumar!
Deepam Center reaches women, children, and families living in a slum near Bangalore, India, with a mostly Muslim population.
Twenty-eight of the fifty students were returning students, and twenty-two of them were brand new to the school.
As with any preschool, some of the new students were not used to being without their mothers and cried when they left - some for longer than others.

A bird's eye view of Modi Road.

Families in Modi Road mostly live in shacks and lean-tos.

Deepam students enjoy learning with manipulatives.
New Deepam students adjust to their new school.
However, the students enjoyed hands-on learning with manipulatives, and most of the tears were replaced with smiles when the upbeat learning songs were introduced.

Pray for the new students as they adjust to being Deepam students, and ask the Lord to use the Christ-centered lessons they will learn at Deepam to bring them to Himself.
