The story of feeding the five thousand, as related by Mark, always makes me think. Try for yourself.
Get to grips with Mark 6:35-44.
Disciples just returned from their fascinating short-term mission trip. They preached, proclaimed the Good News, saw demons subject to their word.
That made them somewhat self-confident.
They felt qualified enough to approach the Master with a piece of advice so obvious, so down-to-earth, reasonable, predictable and... non-innovative: ”Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat."
But He challenged them: "You give them something to eat."
What would you say?
There always is a better way. Not one of the ways of past. The way unknown.
Still to be revealed and get us by surprise as He blesses our small breads and our few fish, one at a time, to meet the needs of the five thousand.
Ready for your journey?
Let’s count our breads, number our fish. The key is His blessing. The impossible — done.
