India
In March, 30 students graduated from Deepam Primary School, operated by our partners in India, David and Taru Kumar.
David said,
It was very satisfying to see these children going out with added values and progress. They came to us raw, did not even know how to eat the food in their plates. Our teachers worked hard, and were diligent with policies and discipline. Parents know the quality of teaching and discipline in Deepam Education Center and cooperated well with us. Because of these collective efforts, today these 30 children walked out with high confidence into the competitive world.
Deepam Center is located inside of the Modi Road slum, where marginalized and impoverished families squat in small tin shacks. The people living there have unspeakably difficult and harsh lives, and this is reflected in the lives of the children.
Deepam’s curriculum is robust, covering academics, God’s Word, as well as life skills. One example is cooking day, where students learn about different vegetables and how to clean and cook them.
David continues,
Our vision is a holistic growth of the children who come to us. We are very clear about our vision and our conduct. We know the world we live in, so we equip children accordingly. Along with academic inputs we give very high value and importance to moral and spiritual aspects. Teachings on fear of the Lord, honoring one’s parents, prayer, and Bible stories are integral pieces of our ministry. Taru is keen on creatively communicating stories from the Bible through skits and activities. We know these lessons remain with them as they graduate.
As supporters of ITMI and the Kumars, we ask that you continue to cover us in prayer and partner with us as the Lord leads.
