“I don’t think he knows who we are,” Pastor Mlungisi Zuma told ITMI’s Kelly Smith. They were in a well-lit, non-private hospital room near Zulu Natal, South Africa. The two men were visiting a man they knew as Mr. Cele. “He is mumbling and saying a lot of things, but he is making no sense at all,” the pastor observed. Kelly and the new South African pastor of his church continued chatting with the delirious patient.
The Surprising Story Behind a Beautiful Smile
You’d never believe it, but behind this wonderful smile is a story of hardship and pain. Andile was born with Spina Bifida, and is disabled from the waist down as a result. He lives the same community as ITMI partners, Kelly and Cherise Smith in Zulu Natal, South Africa.
Blessed by an Angel
God has continued His great work in Angel’s life. She has been trained by friends who are with Child Evangelism Fellowship, in teaching children, and is using her new skills in her Sunday gatherings at her house.
Steve’s Photo Tour of Zulu Land, South Africa
The dirt road leading to 7 Rivers Farm, which is Kelly and Cherise Smith’s property, is long and dusty. You can begin to see the dryness of winter in the area, which we’ll see more of later. This road crosses the wayward and windy river 7 times before we’ll arrive at the farm. Zulu land is about a 20 minute drive from the outskirts of the beautiful ocean resort city of Durban, South Africa. As you’ll see, the difference 20 minutes makes is night and day!
A New House Guest
August 2012 I woke up this morning to a sound I haven’t heard in a long time. It didn’t take long for that sound to turn into a little bundle joining Kelly and I in bed for a few more of the sleeping hours. It’s amazing how you get so used to your routine. […]

Spring 2012 If you follow “The News From 7 Rivers” you’ll be familiar with the story of Entabeni Baptist Church. We started meeting in January of 2011 and we have a monthly service, which is on the last Sunday of the month. There are quite a few people who just aren’t happy with a […]
Siya’s Story
“Someone contacted me about a neglected and abused boy this week. She said it was urgent,” Lendiwe began as she walked up and stood next to ITMI’s Kelly’s Smith. Kelly looked over at Lendiwe, the health worker he and Cherise employ to help them minister to the most desperate and forgotten Zulus. She continued, “But its outside our area, so I think I’ll let someone else worry about it.” The next day…
A Christmas Story
At the PCB (Project Christmas Blessing) school parties, Lindiwe our health care worker told me a Jonah-‐like story. She was notified aboutan abused and neglected child that she must look into urgently. She asked a few questions and discovered the child was outside of our area. Because of this she decided to leave […]
Project Christmas Blessing
What is Project Christmas Blessing? Project Christmas Blessing (PCB) is a project designed to bless school children in Zulu Natal, South Africa in Jesus’ name. For some, it might be the only Christmas gift they’ll ever get. In their whole life. It also might be the only way they’ll hear gospel truth. Cherise Smith […]
A Church Story – August 2011 Update
We truly count it a blessing to be used as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. As you know it takes an entire team for us to be here in South Africa. I’m constantly striving to be that which I’ve been sent to be. Salt & Light to all in our community. It took a […]
